Kenyan President Ruto Calls for Urgent Global Action to End Sudan Conflict
Kenyan President William Ruto has called for swift and collective action from the international community to bring an end to the ongoing war in Sudan, warning that the conflict has escalated to the level of genocide and a humanitarian catastrophe.
Speaking at State House Nairobi on Saturday, President Ruto stated that both warring sides—the Sudanese army led by General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commanded by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo—continue to fight with total disregard for civilian lives.
“The war in Sudan is heading toward genocide and has already resulted in a humanitarian disaster,” President Ruto told journalists during a joint press briefing with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar.
President Ruto sharply criticized the two generals for failing to take meaningful steps to end the conflict and the suffering of their people. He stressed that regional and international bodies must take all possible measures to prevent further tragedy.
“These two generals have no respect for human life. All entities—both international and regional—must be involved to stop these killings,” Ruto added.
For her part, President Musar affirmed that Slovenia would continue collaborating with Kenya and other international partners in seeking solutions to conflicts in Africa and around the world. She emphasized the importance of open dialogue as the key to achieving lasting peace.
President Musar was accompanied by Slovenia’s Special Envoy for Africa, Ambassador Frank Hoot, along with other senior officials. During the meeting, the two countries signed a Political Consultation Cooperation Agreement and committed to strengthening partnerships in various sectors including agriculture, health, education, environment, trade, digital technology, and climate change.
President Musar is also scheduled to attend Madaraka Day celebrations on Sunday in Homa Bay County, where she will be the chief guest of the East African nation.
