In a historic and thrilling move in Tanzania’s political landscape, ACT Wazalendo party leader Dorothy Semu has officially declared her intention to run for president in the upcoming general election scheduled for October 28, 2025.

Semu collected her nomination forms on April 21, 2025, pledging to bring real transformation to the country’s politics by focusing on social justice, gender equality, and the rule of law. As the second woman in Tanzania’s history to seek the presidency, Semu emphasized that the time has come for the nation to embrace leadership rooted in integrity, transparency, and accountability.

In her speech after collecting the nomination forms, she stated:

"I am running for president because I believe Tanzania has great potential for political, economic, and social progress. We are tired of empty promises—it’s time for action."
