EU Bans All Tanzanian Airlines from Flying in European Airspace Over Safety Concerns
Brussels, June 3, 2025 – The European Union (EU) has issued a ban on all airlines registered in Tanzania from operating within EU airspace, citing serious safety concerns. According to an official statement released on June 3, 2025, the decision follows a technical assessment that revealed significant shortcomings in Tanzania’s aviation safety oversight. These include a shortage of qualified safety personnel, inadequate aircraft inspection systems, and failure to comply with international aviation safety standards. With this decision, Tanzania joins Suriname on the EU Air Safety List — a list of countries whose airlines are prohibited from flying within the EU.
